What’s The Most Important Step?

The most important step in finding easy songs to play on guitar is to learn to read tablature, or tabs as they are more commonly called. Although not as detailed as traditional sheet music, tabs are the easiest and perhaps the most widely available way to learn how to play guitar. You can learn more about reading tabs at Ultimate Guitar, over at http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/lessons/for_beginners/reading_tablature.html.

Once you have learned to read tabs, you will then be able to discern between an easy song to play and a more challenging song to play. Some things to look for on easier songs are things such as power chords (chords made up of three notes that can be transposed up and down the neck without any issue) as well as songs that encourage or feature finger picking. Although finger picking can be quite intricate, most songs that are played with finger picking are usually simpler songs with easy to follow song structures and melodies. Songs played on the acoustic guitar are also usually easier than a song played on an electric guitar, as the acoustic guitar lends itself to songs that don’t require vibrato, hammer ons and hammer offs, as well as tricky things such as solos or pinch harmonics.

So What Are Some Of The Bands That Have Easy Songs To Play?

Most modern rock music is not overly complicated, and is quite possibly the easiest genre of music to play on the guitar. Because of this you can try your hand and any song by Nirvana, as it uses mostly power chords and very simple solos. Even easier yet are the acoustic versions of Nirvana songs, as they have been simplified even more. You can also take a look at songs by the Foo Fighters, the band that was started by Nirvana’s drummer. These songs are a bit more melodic and less brash, but are still quite easy to play. In the same vein, you may want to take a look at any song by the band Blink 182. Their songs are all power chords, and very rarely have solos or any difficult guitar parts in them. If you are looking for a bit more of a challenge, you may be able to move up to Metallica, as their songs are much more guitar centered, and they do include solos in their music. You can also look at bands such as Black Sabbath and Ozzy Osbourne, as well as Deep Purple. These particular bands have power chord laden choruses and well take a bit more time and practice to play than some of the aforementioned songs, but will also sound much more impressive.

When all is said and done, any song on the guitar can be mastered with a bit of time and practice, helping you move past beginner guitar songs. Carve out a few hours each week to simply sit down and practice your guitar, and you will be surprised at how fast you will be playing complicated songs. Best of luck on your guitar playing adventure!
